Today Im going to tell you about the walking water experiment.
WALKING WATER EXPERIMENT #1
The experiment consists of seven cups. four were filled with water and the other three were empty. I put colored dye into the water filled cups. first one red, second one yellow, third one blue and then red again. Those were set in a row and the empty cups were set in a row next to them. Then we had seven paper towels that we rolled up tight. Then we put two paper towels into each cup of dyed water although just one in each red cup.
We put the other end of the paper into the empty cups. In example we had the paper towels from the red and yellow cups leading into an empty cup, paper towels from the yellow and blue cups leading into another empty cup and the blue and red cups had towels going into the last empty cup.
It should be noted that the set up for this is very quick but the results take a long time, over night approximately.
The idea is that water will be soaked in to the paper towels and slowly flow into the empty cups. This process is called "capillary action" . While the water was pooled in the empty cups the colors mixed creating secondary colors from the original primary colors. It is super awesome!! Below are some pictures of our experiment.
Walking water experiment #2
We have seven cups filled with colored water. Each color bleeds into the next cup creating rainbow water. I will pour the 3 secondary colors into the 3 primary colors with two cups that contain red water.
Jsies hypothesis:
I think that by mixing all the cups all the water will turn brown because if you mix all the colors together in makes brown. The purple seems to be the strongest color I dont think that will have an effect on the outcome.
RESULT:
First we poured purple into the red and blue cups both turned dark brown. Secondly we poured green into dark brown and yellow. The Yellow turned light green and the dark brown stayed a similar color. Third we poured the orange cup into the red and light green cups. The red cup turned a similar color and the green turned light brown. Lastly we combined all the cups together in a large bowl and it turned a very dark brown color.
My hypothesis was correct!
